The Calima Region

The Calima Culture refers to the people that inhabited the region of western Cordillera and in the basin of the Cauca River in Colombia from the year 1600 bc to the 6th century. The Calima people lived in three different cultural periods known as Liama, Yotoco and Sonso.

Rich in culture, they were skilled artisans and blacksmiths best known for their amazing gold and metal artwork, sculptures and ceramics of art.

Many of the objects (creations) have been recovered and are exposed in several museums with the best collection in the Gold Museum of Bogota.

The Cauca region is now also referred to as the 'Calima' region and today is one of the major coffee growing areas of Colombia. Given the rich soil, altitude and climatological advantages of the area the coffee crop is of superb quality.

How It Is Created

Since the 19th century coffee growers in Colombia for many generations have continuously perfected the coffee growth and handling process.

It all starts from the seedlings and the personal care given to the coffee trees before production. The coffee is grown high on the famous fincas mountain side with rich soil nutrition and a constant temperate climate./p>

Once ripe, the coffee 'cherries' are hand picked, washed clean of debris and other impurities with natural water from the Andean mountains. The 'cherries' are then laid out to dry in the sun on great open terraces. The 'cherries' then turn into green beans and carefully packed.

From planting to packing, the beans are repeatedly tested by the national federation of coffee growers of Colombia to ensure quality standards are met.

These precious beans are the primary source of income for over 500.000 families in Colombia. This superior product is then carefully roasted in Australia in accordance to our specification and under careful supervision.
