How many milliliters of coffee should I have per cup?

I don't have an espresso machine, can I make a good cup with my filter machine?

I have heard that offering a chocolate with a short or long black is not on? Is this correct?
It is a personal thing, however, a coffee lover would not take a chocolate as it does have the tendency to disrupt the real taste of the coffee, ruining that best coffee taste.
